Music of Haydn, Prokofiev, and Composer-in-Residence, Kile Smith. Collaboration of NCMF with Newburyport Choral Society, Greater Newburyport Children’s Chorus, The Choir School, and organist Meg Harper. World-premiere commission of Composer-in-Residence Kile Smith.

Franz Josef Haydn(1732 – 1809) – String Quartet, Opus 76, Number 1 in G Major
Kile Smith (b. 1956) – Ballade and March (*world premiere*) for solo organ

Sergei Prokofiev (1891 – 1953) – String Quartet No. 2 in F Major, Opus 92
Kile Smith (b. 1956) – “I Could See the Sky” for chorus, children’s choir, organ, and string quartet

These two performances, will feature a World Premiere of “I Could See the Sky” by Newburyport Chamber Music Festival Composer-In-Residence Kile Smith.  The work is inspired by Newburyport, and the lyrics are drawn from writings of two renowned residents who documented life throughout 20th century Newburyport:  John Lagoulis, World War II Veteran, columnist and author; and Jean Foley Doyle, retired Newburyport High School teacher and local author and historian.

This concert is just one event in Season 16 of the Newburyport Chamber Music Festival (NCMF) and is a collaboration of the following organizations and artists:
