Newburyport Choral Society Receives MA Cultural Council Gateway Grant

NEWBURYPORT, MA – The Newburyport Choral Society has been awarded a two-year Cultural Investment Portfolio “Gateway” grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC) which will provide funding of $3000 for each of the next two years.

The Gateway Program is a highly competitive grant program which provides unrestricted general operating support to nonprofit organizations in the arts, sciences and humanities that have demonstrated excellence in programs, services, and organizational capacity.

In announcing the award to the chorus, NCS President Solomon Berman described it as “truly an achievement reflecting the dedication and hard work everyone puts into making our chorus a success. It means that NCS is recognized by Massachusetts for excellence in musical programming and for our impact on Newburyport and the surrounding North Shore communities.”

Berman noted both pride and appreciation for the award, saying, “We couldn’t be more pleased or more proud, and we are thankful not only to MCC, but also to our audiences and sponsors without whose ongoing support we could not exist.”

The Gateway grant is designed to be the entry, or “gateway” into the longer term MCC Cultural Investment Portfolio which provides ongoing operating support.  Through future biennial rounds of competition, NCS hopes to achieve eligibility for reclassification into the Cultural Investment Portfolio.
